Case Studies - Assistance Locating Chicago Assisted Living

We have compliled some examples of real life situations that we have worked with to give you a better idea of what we do and how we can help.  All names in the following examples have been changed.

Objective: Help son who was unfamiliar with Chicago senior living market to quickly locate appropriate assisted living community for his mother who lived in New Jersey.

John called me in the summer of 2007 to ask for help in finding senior living in the Chicago area. He was relocating from New Jersey to Chicago and wanted his mother, who was living in a beautiful assisted living near him.  John had very little time to a find a new home for himself and his mother, Barbara.

In one day, John and I and visited five assisted living communities from as far north as Buffalo Grove to as far west as Glen Ellyn.   John decided on a community that day and took brochures and pictures to show his mother.

On Nov. 9, 2007, Barbara moved into a beautiful senior living community, and John moved a in the same area.  Senior Living Experts helped someone who was not familiar with the Chicago senior living market and had limited time to research it. We were able to narrow down his search and tailor our visits to the communities that would be a good fit for his mother.

Objective: Assist family in California with locating suitable senior community for relative who was experiencing imbalance and mobility issues.

Margaret called our toll-free number, extremely worried about her Aunt Pauline who had fallen several times recently. Margaret and her mother live in California and knew that they could not care for Pauline who lives in Chicago.

They had talked to Pauline about the possibility of moving to California. However, Pauline had been extremely independent all her life, was very involved in the arts and loved everything the city offered. A move from the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago was out of the question for Pauline.

When I visited Pauline, I listened to her concerns and fears about moving to a new place.  She feared that all of the places for seniors were like “nursing homes” and that any option she could possibly afford would be in the suburbs.

She also was honest about her recent imbalance and potential mobility and safety issues. Lately, she wasn’t going out very often and had not been socializing or eating well.

After gathering some additional information, I suggested that we visit two nearby communities. I assured her that they were filled with like-minded active and independent seniors and that the facilities provided a level of security that she could not get in her current apartment building.

We visited the communities the following week and, much to her surprise, Pauline liked them both. In fact, she liked one that was further north than she was originally thinking she would move.

When I contacted the family in California, they were relived and excited that the move was going to finally take place.  I gave them suggestions for companies that could move Pauline, but they ultimately decided to personally help her make the transition.

Today she is living in one-bedroom apartment in a beautiful high-rise building with a view of Lake Michigan. She continues to enjoy her life and live independently. Pauline prefers to do her laundry and prepare some meals. She generally socializes with her new neighbors following the exercise class she attends twice a week and other activities or during dinner in the facility’s comfortable dining room.
