Objective: Locate assisted living community for woman recently diagnosed with dementia
Keith needed to find assisted living for his mother who recently was diagnosed with dementia. Sally was very much a lively, independent person, but she and her family knew that because of the diagnosis, her current living situation needed to change.
Her family and I started looking at potential assisted living communities in Chicago, but because there were several children throughout the Chicagoland area, the family was open to visiting communities in the suburbs as well.
Keith, Sally and I visited three communities in the western suburbs of Chicago, they liked one immediately. However, one of Sally’s daughters lives in a suburb of Milwaukee so the family wanted to considered options in that area.
Senior Living Experts service area does not reach as far as Milwaukee. However, I had grown very fond of Keith, Sally and their whole family and wanted to see Sally situated during this change in her life -- even if it meant there would be no financial compensation.
I researched five communities in the Milwaukee area that would be appropriate for Sally's needs and made appointments for Sally and her children for a marathon day of visiting them. Sally's ultimate choice was one of the communities in the western suburbs of Chicago.
Today, Keith says he can never get in touch with his mother because she's always out on one of the trips planned by the community! The casino is her favorite. Objective: Quickly locate specialized care community in Chicago area for disoriented 69-year-old man in Florida who later was diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia.
Jack and his sister, Sharon, called in a panic because Jack received a call from a hospital in Florida informing him that his father was brought there. Police had found Jack’s 69-year-old father in the middle of the night -- very confused and disoriented. Jack and his sister had not seen their father in three years and did not know he was having health problems.
Jack and his sister brought their fame home to Chicago to be tested and for a diagnosis on his condition. I recommended they take Ray to Rush University Medical Center for testing; the diagnosis was that he had frontal lobe dementia. At that point we started looking at communities that specialize in dementia- related care. Jack and I toured communities and found one the family felt would meet their father’s needs.
Today, Ray is living in a community in the northern suburbs and his family visits on a regular basis. In addition, Ray is now receiving the specialized care he needs. Most importantly - he is safe.
Objective: Locate senior with early Alzheimer’s disease from Michigan to Chicago.
Doris e-mailed Senior Living Experts because she needed some advice about her 79-year-old mother, Mary, who was living in Michigan. Doris was not quite sure what was happening with mother who was going through lots of physical and mental changes. Mary had always been very independent, but was now asking her daughter for help.
After talking to Doris and encouraging her to take her mother to the doctor, we found out that she was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s disease. When Doris heard that news, she knew she had to move her mother closer to her. That was when Senior Living Experts started the search for a senior living community that would best fit Doris and her mother’s needs now and in the future.
Doris and I talked about many communities in the northern suburbs and narrowed it down to three communities that we toured. Mary now lives in a community not far from her family. She is getting the care she needs and deserves, and Doris and her family are reassured knowing that their mother is in a safe environment and that she is receiving the proper care.
